Facilities in AJC

Last year when SAT was held in AJC, I went there to meet with my friends coming for SAT. That was the first time I heard about AJC. At that time, I was impressed by the large sports field of the college. After the JXP, the facilities there really impressed me.
Compared with most senior schools in China, AJC has relatively much better facilities. Not only is there a sports field, but it is also equipped with basketball fields, squash rooms and volleyball fields. Most impressively, there is also a gym, which is almost unimaginable for Chinese schools. I think the students can really get different sports using the facility.

one-week life in AJC

Last week we went to the AJC to have our junior college experiential program. Although I have to get up before 6 a.m in this week, I was looking forward it with a little nervous feeling, for I didn't know what a guy would be my buddy and how the life in JC would be.
We got a warm welcome from AJC's teachers and students, and to our surprise, in order to show their sincerity, AJC's teacher gave our chance to choose our own buddy in a order decided by drawing lots. My buddy is a shy boy ,called Bryan. And I was assigned to a class which has another 2 scholars, which means we have 3 buddies in total. They are all very kind guys and really took care of us.
In this week, we followed our buddies to experience their high school life we called, and I found it is very different from the life in China. Firstly, their works are not as easy as I heard before, even harder than what we learned in China; and their school time is much shorter than ours in China; lastly, they pay much attention to students' physical quality, so their PE class is really a big challenge.
Anyhow, this week I got a lot, and really had a good time. I hope the friends I made in this week can be kept in touch in future to remind me this period of wonderful time.

A pity

With time going fast, we have spent almost a week in AJC. It is the time to say goodbye. Actually, we scholars made good relationship with buddies. Last day, I had classes seriously with classmates and tried to treasure the time with them. To my surprised, not only my buddy also his classmates gave great gifts to me. I was really moved and not willing to leave them. Even I thought it was too short in AJC to go on well with them. But fortunately, I experienced this wonderful memory which I regarded as my wealth for my life.

Enjoy the life in AJC

During the weekday in AJC, I learnt much benefits for me. I respected not only the students who were eager for the knowledge, also their positive attitude to the life. Especially in PE class, they always toughed it out even it is really hard to complete the training.I also had lunch together with my buddy and his classmates with joy. It is worthy for me to treasure the period in AJC. In conclusion, I enjoyed the life in AJC.

First day in AJC

I still remember what occurred first day. We chose our own buddies after doing games so that we may know each other well. It's lucky for me to choose my buddy who is a pretty kind and handsome person. With his introduction, I also made good friends with his classmates. Though I felt tired first, I really enjoy the process to get along with others.

My last day in AJC

[I wrote this article on Friday, but didn't post on the blog]

Today is my last day in AJC.
Today is my last time to see the moon in the morning.

Today is my last chance to have classes with my buddy.

We had farewell lunch today, we felt the stress in the hall, we said some words to our buddies, we also give our handmade gifts to our buddies.

It's the gift I gave my buddy----Xinyi.
After school, we first went to the border of Malaysia and Singapore near Woodlands. The landscape was soooooo beautiful. At night we had dinner near AJC.It was really memorable.
In the letter my buddy gave me, she said, ‘下星期不跟你一起上课,我想会觉得很怪吧。’So will I. I just get used to this week, and really don't want to leave.

EXPERIENCE WITH MY BUDDY

It is an original way that we can choose buddis by ourselves. I really like my buddy Khee Hoon that I have choosen. We have many common topics and she helped me a lot. She is an art student that I can experience art students' life. There are 18 students in that class but only one of them is male. (Actually that only gentleman has been absent for the whole week.) With my buddy's help, I can quickly get along with her classmates. All her classmates welcomed me.  During the break time, she bought something for me to eat in case that I would be hungry . She also helped me to pass through the PE class. Her friends ran along with me to encourage me. I feel more at home in that class. Thanks for this JXP programme. Finally, thank you Khee Hoon indeed.

experience in AJC

There are many differences between AJC and my high school in China. AJC students are more free than those in China. I have had so much pleasure in AJC. For example, there is a special class in AJC that other JCs may not have. It is called "sex education". In that class teacher told us about the difference between puppy love and true love. I was surprised about that. In addition in the GP class, the thacher of my buddy's class is quite kind and enthusiastic. Actually GP is quite similar to our AE class . We were taught about some political issues and stratagies to write essay. Literature class is very interesting and meaningful. I have learned some similar words that is repress, supress and oppress. On the whole, classes in AJC made me enjoyable.

To my buddies

How time flies. Five days with you has gone. I can till remember what we did last week, even if I am in NTU now. I am so lucky because I met you guys. Last week we spent together seems not to be a week but some time longer than that. We experienced more than school life. THANK YOU. All the best.

my ajc journey

our ajc experience journey finally ended last weekend. I found I really enjoyed myself this week.
firstly I want to say a big thank you to all the buddies, teachers, and scholars. All you together make this activity so colorful.
secondly I want to talk something about my maths class during jxp.actually I dislike maths, because I am not good at it.but having maths class in ajc let me find its interest. The humor and cute teacher always make the class active, as well as pay more attention to all students own work instead of just go through problems. I think this kind of teaching method is wonderful.
at last, I just want to say that though jxp ended, our friendship will last forever.
thank you for this wonderful experience0w0~

Chen Zhang's JC journal 3

This is my last jounral about this week's JC experience. This program is extraordinarily amazing that we are able to experience a totally different high school life.  In the last day, we also took the chance to visit woodlands park with my buddy and had a wonderful farewell dinner.
In the end,  i would like to write the conclusion of this week's program: Wonderful time never fades away, it just turns into valuable memory preserved in everyone's mind. Departure never becomes the end of the friendship , it is just the beginning of a brand new journey.

Last day at AJC

Yesterday was our last at AJC. Throughout the one-week time, we all built friendships with our buddies as well as their classmates, and it is really hard to say goodbye. We got better understandings of each other, AJC and the Singapore educational system.I would really like to say thank you to all the buddies, teachers (espeicially Ms Ang and Ms Aw), the Planning Committee (Yu Lan, Jia Yi and Trang) as well as all the AJCians. Without you guys, this week wouldn't have been so perfect as it is!

After the gift exchanging session, we went to the podium to witness the release of A-level results. The A-level exam is similar to the Collage Entrance Exam in China, so the students and parents were all anxious to see the results.I just wish that all the students can get their expected results go to their dream university for further studies.

Finally, thank you to the buddies. I hope to see some of you in NTU next year, if so, we can get to be the host and show you guys around our campus!

last class in JC

this is the photo of the farewell party for us from class 15.
i ve share a great week with you all and wish you all the best!

bio experiment !

yesterday we had an bio experiment with my buddies.
we did an experiment to find out the crime by the DNA fingerprinting tech,
which i ve learnt but never conducted.
thank you everybody!

The last one

Thanks o JXP and AJC, I can widen my the field of my eyes. I guess we all have learnt something new and valuable. If u don't make new friends and try to get along with a new type of life, u will be locked in ur chest forever ad can never have a taste of the fun in life. This new experience gave me not only a group of good buddies, but also a look into Sinaporean students and Singapore's education. Hope to visit this lovely place again.

Thanks for all your KINDNESS~

During the five-day programme, I made a lot of Singaporean and Chinese friends. They are all friendly and kind to me. We met every morning, had lunch together, talking about RM and K-Pop and having lessons together. I guess it is not only because of the common interest we have that we had fun playing together, but also the outgoing and responsible personality my buddy has got. I can always feel the happy atmophere when you gals and I are together. Thanks for your company! The end of this programme is not the end of our friendship.

There's one gal short in the picture...
Smiling Weiyi, Lovely Jingyi, Gorgeous Angelin and Quiet Huixian, I will never forget u. We are a happy group of five.
This Friday our class had a PE lesson. First of all, I was eager to how Singaporean students exercised in their PE. However, after hearing the direction given by the teacher, I regretd expecting this PE class. They were told to jump over several rods first and then lift a heavy ball for a least 15 times! It is not the all. After that, they were going to pass the ball around a pair and do further strong exercise. Although it was so tired and hot that sweats wet my shirt, I still felt excited and satisfied. That's because the PE teacher asked me about my feelings and my considerate buddy kept giving me encouragement. During this class, I kind of fell in love with this lovely place and people here.

A DRAWING FOR AJC

THANK YOU AJC~!~\(≧▽≦)/~
i felt sorry that i do not have enough time to complete this drawing(T.T)

Goodbye AJC~~

Some thoughts of this week
Today is my last day in AJC.

I had an intresting week in AJC with my buddy and other friends. During this time, I had some thoughts.

The first one is that students in Singapore also study very hard. Knowledge they learn is not as simple as what we thought before. My buddy once told me that they always study until 1am or 2am, and they have to get up early in the morning to go to school. Also, something they learn is beyond my knowledge.I think I should work hard.

Secondly, CCAs provide students in AJC a colorful and intresting campus. I am sure that students can learn a lot when they participate in their CCAs. And the knowledge they learn from CCAs can not be learnt in classroom or from textbooks.

Thirdly, I think PE classes in AJC are different from what we have in China. What the have are all tough things. I like such kind of PE classes!

Also, I think students in AJC are all very kind and warm-hearted. I made a lot of new friends in the first day and I can make new friends everyday.

At last, food in AJC is good!

I would like to say "thank you" to MOE, to AJC, to my buddy, to my colleagues. I will always remeber this experience. It has already become part of my memory of my youth.

Friendship will never come to the end

Sylvia Ong Xueting, Chan Joshule, Wayne, Miao Lingyu, Cai Dingkun and Ding Jiatao.
We six really really had a  fantastic week.
Never better.
I will treasure those memories forever.
AJC!

Something I thought of during the week

During JC immersion the week,I noticed that the education system is very different from that in China. For example, the size of Class is smaller that that in China. Tutorials and lectures combine with each other to enhance learning for students. PE lessons are compulsory and tiring. I think this experience did enrich my view.

On the other hand, I found that local students study hard and play hard. They do not cut their CCA time or play time to study even if they have a lot of homework to do. I really appreciate this!

The last day

Today is the last day of JXP program. I felt very upset to say goodbye to my buddy and new friends. Now, I just want to say thanks to Sylvia, Joshuel and Wayne for their kindness and friendliness. I think I will often contact them in the future. I am looking forward our trip next weekend!

First day in AJC

This Monday is the first day for us to go to AJC and experience. We got up very early in the morning. As a result when we arrived at the AJC, it is still very dark. At around 7:25, we were brought to AJ square to participate in flag-raising ceremony. I can feel that this ceremony is quite solemn. But after raising flags and swear oath, the meeting after was more free. Then we went to LT5 and played games with buddies later. Student leaders prepared some games for us to play together, such as blow wind blow, running... Because of these games, we could know our buddies better so that we could choose buddies by ourselves. I like this kind of form to choose buddies by ourselves. AJC provided us a more free environment.  I was so glad with my buddy and after that we went to class together. And I knew that she was art student. My first class in AJC is general paper lecture. In that lecture I knew more about my hometown China. The first day of my AJC experience was finished.

culture show: opera &pancic

today s culture show is awesome. everybody who stood on the stage showed interesting facts about their homwtown which most of them i havent heared of. i distributed the pancic which i brought from china, and i had a song!

Culture show

Culture Show!
We had a culture show today.

My friends from different provinces talked about their hometowns. I learnt  a lot about their local cultures.

Our buddies also presented  Singapore culture, quite intresting!

My buddy sitted beside me. I think he was amazed by Chinese culture beacuse he gasped in admiration several times.

I presented about Chinese Painting. I also showed them paintings I painted several days ago.

I am proud of Chinese culture!

AJC

Now, the last feature I want to introduce is girls here are very attractive. Some of them play sports, some of them dance, and some of them play instruments. What a colorful school.
I will give my buddy a cup which shows my hometown feature. Wish the last day will be happy.

AJC

I want to talk about another feature of AJC. AJC has many interesting clubs like paper making and painting clubs.
Yesterday, we scholars played a game with basketball club. We lost but won the friendship.
And we watched the 4×100 game. Everyone was involved.

AJC

The first feature I want to share is AJC PE classes are so tiring...
I've already attended 2 PE classes. The first day, I ran 2400m, and today,II do 10 minutes push ups...
My buddy told they needed to prepare for the army. Maybe this policy trained Singaporeans a lot.

more fun coming

On the third day of this unforgettable week, we officially have a meeting with AJC students in the early morning. After that we went back to our lectures and classes. It was great fun to have GP classes guided by a very funny old man from Australia. I found it not too hard to understand his accent. His wisdom as well as the sense of humor makes us feel happy all the time. Although he made fun of us Chinese students every now and then, we felt quite comfortable to be joked friendly and talk with him.
We also had CCA orientation program in the afternoon. My buddy has his own activity in the Chinese Chess Club which surprised me a lot at first. We are guided by student leader from this junior college to different clubs, societies, matches to see their colorful after-school life. In China, especially for senior high school students, it's  incredible to enjoy so many activities at so much leisure time.
This day is the happiest day I have in AJC of this week.

My first three days in AJC

During these 3-day experience in AJC with mu buddy Xinyi, I found the high school life in Sg is quite different from in China.

In AJC, the students can choose the subjects they want instead of learning all 9 subjects. Then, the students will be more motivated to study and they can study happily. However, they have to go into different classrooms to attend different courses, that is a little inconvenient from my point of view.

In AJC, the PE classes are really tiring! The students have to run 2.4 km every lesson and also do some other activities. I ran 2000m on Monday, and still feel tired.Maybe because I was ill last week, but I still think I should do more exercise to keep fit.T_T

In AJC, there are a lot of CCAs, including all kinds of ball games, bands, dramas, experiments, etc. The students all enjoy themselves during the activities, and can truly learn some skills.

The last but not least, AJC is actually a melting pot. There are many foreign students mainly from China,India,Malaysia, etc. Therefore, as a foreign student, he or she won't feel lonely anymore. Besides this, they can also learn other countries' culture and chat with the students from all over the world.

I enjoyed this three days in AJC, and am looking forward the next two days!

PE and CCA: unforgettable experiences

Today I attended my first PE lesson at AJC. There were a lot of tiring exercises including push-ups, running, etc. I was totally stressed out by the end of the lesson, but I was amazed at the Singporean students' physical strength. I think that's the result of long-term exercising and practicing.Perhaps I should also start exercising in order to keep fit and healthy.
In the afternoon we visited a variety of CCAs and watched, sometimes joined, their activities. The students here have rich after school activities. Not only can they learn a lot of skills from their CCAs, they also have fun and enjoy themselves during the process.

CCA journal from DGL

We have different classes every day. They are classified as Lecture, tutorial, PE and CCA. The lectures are all in one big hall and we have to be with several other classes up to 14. In lectures, usually it is for the introduction to some new knowledge and contents of their subjects. So actually students do not have many chances to ask questions and do more exercises. As for tutorials students can go to their own smaller class within 25 people. It is for doing exercises or helping students to solve problems in their study.
In AJC they have much more gym equipment and good playground. After school they have much personal time to have an exciting experience doing sports or enjoying themselves in CCA activities. Although they also have some homework and the coming A-level exams are very crucial, they can well managed their time to balance their leisure time and study part. That's quite educational for me.

CCA experience

Experience CCAs in AJC!

Today is Wednesday, all AJC students will join their CCAs and have a meaningful afternoon. As guests as well as students in AJC, we were guided to visit and experience all the CCAs in AJC.

The first CCA we met is a race held by running club. We only watched one race. I found that students in AJC are all good at running. That's may beacuse of their tough PE classes.

The second one was clarient band. Thay palyed a song for us. I really enjoyed the period of time when they play their instruments.

After that ,we visited chorus club, band, papercutting club.

In the lab of AJC, we met a smart students, he told  us a lot about his projects and equipments. I think I was inspirated by him.

On the basketball court, we met the basketball club of AJC. We even had a 10 minutes game. Because our team members have never played together, we lose that game.We also played among ourselves, pretty interesting!

In the morning of today, I just had three lecctures, just a normal JC morning.

This is how my Wednesday like. I do enjoy it!

Miao Lingyu's JC experience

Today is the third day in Anderson Junior College.I found the experience in AJC is wonderful and exciting, and a little bit tiring:)

Teachers and schoolmates in AJC are zealous to us. They welcome us to attend all their lessons and activities. My buddy Sylvia Ong Xueting is a cute and kind girl and I like her very much. She introduces her school, answers all my questions and take care of my live in AJC.
Since yesterday I attended the PE lesson which exhausted my energy and shocked me a lot, I cannot move freely till now. PE lesson helped me experience the feeling of ache all over......
In words, I love JXP and AJC. I am looking forward to next two days!

Interesting!

Beginning of  My Life in AJC!

I was sent to AJC for my JXP programe for a whole week.

As a new students there, I have experienced a lot of new things since my first minute at there.

My buddy is a enthusiastic JC2 student whose name is Haungrui. He has the smae age as me and it seems that he has a lot of interesting ideas. He has a lot of friends, they are all very kind to me.

He told me a lot of things about education system in Singapore and their school in these two days. This makes me have a better understanding about dailylifes of students in Singapore. Also, I can have more to talk with my colleagues in university.

I almost have experienced all subjects and different kinds of classes in these two days. Some of them I cannot understand but it is OK for me because we are from different education system, things we learn may not be same.

I experienced one of their PE class yesterday. To be honest, I was shocked. Their PE classes are so different from what I have had for more than 10 years in China. In China, what we do on PE classes almostly depened by ouesleves, we can choose to do some exercise or just sit in classroom and rest. But here in Singapore, all students take tough exercise in PE class. This really made me think a lot.

In a word, these to days in AJC are interesting and meaningful, I really love such experiences!

AJC: Amazing Exploration

Quite amazing, beneficial and memorable experience in AJC. It's a Junior College with relatively long history compared with others, and this is exactly what I can feel no matter when I walk around in school with my buddy or when I have lectures with many other students here.
Actually, I had been wondering whether I could get a chance to firsthand experience Junior College life in Singapore, and in AJC, I have already got my answer. For instance, I did not what PE lesson is like in Singapore until today. Frankly speaking, I was kind of surprised when I saw what PE lesson is like here at first sight. Everyone has a conscious effort to exercise. Try your best, find your own target, never give up. That is what I learn today, but not only for today.
Also, I got very enjoyable CCA experience. Anyway, it is literally an amazing, evocative and meaningful experience.  I sincerely hope all of us enjoy and have a fantastic week!

Day 2 FROM DGL

As a scholar from MOE, my experience in Anderson Junior College is quite enjoyable and interesting. This school has a strong and unique mission in education which is shown in my picture, and I really have learned their spirits through the first two days.
My buddy is a totally hard-working and friendly guy who has specialized interests and talents in physics and other science subjects. His name is Daniel, but he openly told me that I can feel free to call him “大牛”in Chinese as it is the common way that his mainland China friends call him. His passion for better understanding and working results in his study has deeply influenced my view about Singaporean students' good qualities. We together have classes and activities. I really enjoy being friend with him.
I also have made friends with other local students who are warm-hearted as also. The precious friendship will never be forgot.

Chen Zhang's JC journal 2

Hello, this is my second journal of my JC life. In this journal, I want to share my feelings after attending the JC courses. Measured by the Chinese standard, my buddy is a liberal art student, which means that after two years I am able to regain the chance to learn social sciences.
Following my buddy, I attended geography and economics with great expectation. Geography class is quite plain and boring, for now they are covering chapters about globalization and TNCs' impact. We have also studied the case of Toyota, which is quite astonishing to find that economy entities like these kind have greater impact on globalization than most independent countries. However, on the whole, geography is not very interesting and even my buddy regards it as the most boring course.
Contrary to geography, economics is really impressive to me. I've read some economics book in my leisure time so these terminologies didn't sound very strange to me. Though students were not very active in the economics lecture, they were obviously really focused on taking lecture notes. I just felt a little disappointed that there were not so many discussion on economic principles which I expected. Maybe it is related to the style of school based on reflection from students who attend other junior colleges. Also, my buddy told me that students in AJC are probably the most hard working and nerdy one and college is now trying to change this kind of nerdy atmosphere a little.
So much for these two subjects, I am going to attend Chinese Literature tomorrow! Can't be more excited about it!
Chen Zhang

Chen Zhang's JC journal 1

Hello, everyone! It is really a good thing to share so many good feeling about my JC experience with you. Though the timing is not that perfect, the latter part of the first day was really worthy of our sacrifices on sleeping. Much to my expectation, we even got the liberty to choose our own buddies after setting up some impression in several interesting interaction games. I think my buddy, Yu song, is really a nice guy to befriend.
Comparing to my high school in China, the style of studying is more close to the way of learning in the bridging course. Similarly, there are lectures and tutorials. One of the discrepancies between my buddy and I settles on the view towards lecture and tutorial. For me, i think lectures are less efficient for i see no big difference to read the materials by yourselves or with the help of the lecture; on the other hand, he thinks tutorials are much likely to be ineffective since they are able to check the answers independently and will get more time to dominate its own study plan if tutorials time is reduced. Anyway, experiencing such brand new method of education practice will benefit me from the future study in the university. Ok, so much for today's journal, i am looking forward to the rest of the week!

My First Day in AJC

Today is my first day in AJC, and so many interesting and attractive things came to me.
The most surprising thing for me is that we can choose our buddy ourselves. As AJC have prepareda lot of activities for us to know each other, I really enjoyed myself.
I attended enconomy and biology class with my buddy today. I found biology very interesting.~\(≧▽≦)/~
There are a lot of new things in AJC, and I am looking forward to the following activities.I believe this week will be unforgettable.
Dear guys and girls from JXP Group3:

Hope you guys enjoy your first day at AJC. I am sure that all of you must have something unique that you would like to share with our fellow group mates. Please don't hesitate to post on this blogger. Note that at least three posts are required by MOE and that MOE officers might constantly check on our blogger.

Personally I enjoyed my first day at AJC very much, especially the interaction games part. Through those games we got to know each other better. Then touring around campus gave me a better understanding of the school (we were lucky enough to have the vice principal to be our tour guide!).After that I spent the rest of the day following my buddy attending lectures and tutorials. We really enjoyed ourselves communicating with others. I am looking forward to the upcoming days at AJC!

What about you guys? Please feel free to post any thoughts that you have on your mind regarding the JXP program. The more, the better! Thank you!
